Wide, NOT tall
To fit properly, the shape of the photo needs to be wider than it is tall. Cropping the image in a photo editing program is an easy way of letting us know how you wish to crop the image to fit the horizontal format.
Less is More
Use close-ups of your subject to have more impact. Full-length and large group images make people’s faces too small.
Capture Personality & Emotion
Choose photos with that extra spark of personality & emotion. Avoid photos where the subject has that "pasted-on" smile.
The Background
Keep an eye on background objects and avoid cluttered scenes. Instead opt for images with blurry backgrounds or simple, clean backgrounds. Avoid trees, lamp posts, and other objects that are growing out of people's heads.
Image Size
Ideally your image should be 9.5" x 6" @ 72dpi (or a minimum pixel resolution of 695 x 435). Higher resolutions are fine.
File Size
Your image must be less than 6000 pixels x 6000 pixels in size.
File Format
File must be in JPG, TIFF, PNG format. If saving in JPG format, do not set the quality level less than 70%.
